Primary & Revision Total Hip Arthroplasty Course 2019

The SICOT Marmara University Hip and Knee Arthroplasty Courses have been conducted for the last 2 consecutive years. The first primary and revision THA course was conducted in September 2018 followed by a primary and revision TKA course in March 2019. In Orthopaedic Surgery, total joint arthroplasty is widely considered as one of the major revolutions of the twentieth century with a proven track record of pain relief, improved functional outcome and quality of life. While Sir John Charnley is widely acclaimed as the Father of Modern Total Hip arthroplasty, Professor Themistocles Glück is credited with performing the first joint replacements in the knee, wrist, hip and shoulder. Exposure of the brachial plexus in complex revisions to reverse total shoulder arthroplasty

Background: Excision of extensive scar tissue (EEST) may be required in certain cases of revision reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA). Neurovascular structures are at a higher risk of iatrogenic direct injury in these cases. We describe a technique to expose and protect the musculocutaneous and axillary nerves in a series of revision RTSA cases that required EEST. Read more...

A 6-year-old girl fell on an outstretched hand and sustained an injury to her right elbow. She presented with gross swelling and deformity of the elbow. Report of the SICOT meets SICOT (2018-2019) Fellowship at St. George University Teaching Hospital

I was pleasantly surprised when, one fine afternoon of 2018, I received an email congratulating me for being a successful applicant for the prestigious SICOT meets SICOT fellowship, to be pursued at my preferred choice of center: St. George University Teaching Hospital situated at Székesfehérvár, Hungary. After a few email communications with the SICOT Head Office and Prof László Bucsi (my mentor for the fellowship and Head of Department of Orthopaedics of the Institute) I could prepare well for my intended travel in the month of April 2019.
