HKU/SICOT Training Fellowship (closed)

Funded by SICOT & University of Hong Kong Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Hong Kong

 

The HKU/SICOT Fellowship will be awarded to an orthopaedic surgeon from Asia to undergo a twelve-week training program in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, The University of Hong Kong.

 

Duration of Fellowship:

12 weeks



Fellowship Programme:

During the fellowship period, the awarded fellows will be given the opportunity to observe the clinical service and participate in research works in one of the following orthopaedic subspecialties:

  1. Foot and Ankle Surgery

  2. Hand and Microvascular surgery

  3. Musculoskeletal oncology

  4. Orthopaedic Rehabilitation

  5. Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery

  6. Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery

  7. Spine Surgery

  8. Sports and Arthroscopic Surgery

The fellowship includes:

  1. A round trip economy air ticket (reimbursed up to EUR 600 by SICOT)

  2. Accommodation in hospital accommodation

  3. Daily allowance of HK$ 100 for the duration of the fellowship

The fellowship does not include medical and travel insurance during the fellowship period. Fellows are advised to ensure this is organized because health care expenses in Hong Kong can be expensive.

There will be two places in the year 2020 (July to September and October to December). The applications for the year 2020 have to be submitted from 1 October 2019 to 20 January 2020. The result of the fellowship will be announced at the beginning of March 2020. Upon completion of the fellowship, a formal report is required from the selected candidate.

 

Pre-requisites:

  • must be a SICOT member from the Asia region with membership dues paid two years in a row at the time of the application (the year of the application and the year before)

  • must be 45 years or under at the beginning of the fellowship

  • must have at least 4 years of professional experience

  • health insurance coverage during stay at centre

  • medical check-up before travel (including lab results for blood tests) 

  • language skills (either one)

    1. basic command of oral and written English is required

    2. ability to communicate in Chinese (Putonghua or Cantonese)

Selection of the candidates will be based on the submission of:

  • a detailed curriculum vitae;

  • a best published scientific paper; and

  • a letter of recommendation by the supervisor/chief of the department
